L'action du commando américain a eu lieu dimanche dans une résidence d'Islamabad, contrairement aux informations de ces dernières années qui le donnaient plutôt en Afghanistan. Le corps du leader terroriste a été récupéré par les troupes américaines pour effectuer des analyses ADN, qui ont donc confirmé l'identité du chef d'Al-Qaïda. Dès la confirmation officielle de la mort du chef terroriste, des milliers de personnes se sont rassemblées spontanément devant les grilles de la Maison Blanche pour crier leur joie.
